SEPTEMBER 12 THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR
Come celebrate our one-year anniversary with the kids and enjoy story time of the The Very Hungry Caterpillar, a craft project and a unique experience in seeing live monarch butterflies in process.
SEPTEMBER 14 AUTHOR EVENT: Kim Larkins
Houlton children's book author Kim Larkins will visit the bookshop and present her book, “Emma Lou the Yorkie Poo: Breathing in the Calm.”
The children’s book author has been a licensed clinical social worker for the past 30 years. Larkins has dedicated her career to working with children and families in the mental health and human services field.
Her first book, “Emma Lou the Yorkie Poo: Breathing in the Calm,” draws heavily from her experiences in that field.
“When I go into classrooms, I teach kids mindfulness,” Larkins said. “You see a lot of kids with anxiety and depression. Those are the main referrals I get. There are many kids with ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder) or who have experienced some form of trauma that causes difficulty in their ability to focus.”
“Emma Lou the Yorkie Poo: Breathing in the Calm” introduces parents, therapists, educators and children to some of the many benefits of mindfulness.
SEPTEMBER 19 AUTHOR EVENT: Kathryn Olmstead
Author Kathryn Olmstaed discussed her biography of Philomena Baker, "Flight to Freedom."
Philomena was a photographer in Fort Kent for many years and most people did not realize her plight during World War II. Olmstead shares Philomena's perspective of the war through the eyes of a child.
